Because a 2 ¾ shell is shorter, it’s definitely going to fit into the chamber of a shotgun. A coworker of mine is into vintage side by sides and i know from talking to him that a lot of older double guns were originally chambered for 2 1/2 shells and won't chamber a 2 3/4 or will not do so safely. The article talked about firing 2 3/4 shells in a 3 1/2 chamber, which is a 0.75 (not 0.075) difference. If someone has direct knowledge that this is an unsafe practice to shoot 2 3/4 shells in a 2 1/2. You can shoot a shorter shell, but cannot shoot a shell longer than your chamber is marked for.
